Chainsaw Man has already created quite a buzz for itself in the manga community, but wait till it is animated.
As of the publishing of this article, the first part of the manga, the public safety arc has been completed with a total of 97 chapters and a sequel has been announced for next year. I currently am on the 60th chapter and thus far can say one thing for sure. The hype is justified and the anime adaptation set to release in November of this year will only increase it, in a similar way to that of Jujutsu Kaisen if not more.
The reason I bought Jujutsu Kaisen in this conversation is because of the massive success it has gotten during and at the end of its first season, and to be fair it deserves all of it. The fights are very good, the characters are likeable and the animations are godly. Another reason for bringing Jujutsu Kaisen is because Chainsaw Man is better than it in all aspects (I have only watched the anime so far) Considering how Mappa is animating this one as well, I have my fingers crossed.
Plot :
Being a shonen, Chainsaw Man follows a common plot involving devils and devil hunters, but the way it is executed is almost refreshing and does not make you feel bored. Denji, a 16 year old orphan who is neck deep into debt, struggles through his life until something big happens, this is where our story begins. You may not think about the plot a lot while watching/reading the series but it will keep you entertained throughout its entirety. Also, boy wanna touch tits. We get.
Characters:
The characters are GOOD. Compared to how characters are generally in a majority of shows in this genre, they are extremely good. Denji, the protagonist is almost like anime deadpool with his absolute no fucks given attitude. All the characters are memorable, their powers differ from each other wildly which makes their individualism more stern. Nothing in the story seems forced, there are no over the top generic tropes given to any of the characters. There is a decent amount of characters in the story and all of them are portrayed very well.
Turns And Thrills :
While stories residing within this genre is pretty straight forward, during the end of part 1 of manga, we see quite a interesting developments and turns which makes you not want to put down the manga until you have finished the part, and the ending is pretty fulfilling as well.
Gore :
This series does not shy away from its share of action and bloody gore. This easily has to be one of the most edgy and rash aggression I've seen in a story. Chainsaw Man doesn't have a lot of intelligent fights with much stratergy and tactics involved, because it follows pure violence in its action scenes which are sure as hell lot of fun to watch and makes me curious as to how MAPPA is going to show us these scenes. Done the right way, it will most certainly give the viewers a jolly good time.
Conclusion :
If Mappa fives CSM the Jujutsu Kaisen treatment in terms of animation, there is not a single doubt in my mind that it is going to break the internet and would effortlessly take the throne of the best new gen shounen. And the fact that the manga is yet to continue only increases its potential. As of writing of this article, the trailer has just been released on MAPPA's official Youtube channel and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Considering how the teams working for the trailer and the actual anime is different, it is certain to see some differences animation wise, but if they manage to pull this off like shown in the trailer. CSM will become a force to reckon with in the anime community.
