5 Reasons To Read Horimiya

Horimiya has officially ended serialization after 9 years, so here are 5 reasons why you should read this rom com classic

Horimiya

Just adapted in spring 2021, Horimiya is one of the most selling romance manga there is which makes it a must read for all the fans of the genre. While you might have been familiar with the anime, here are some reasons why you should read the manga, even if you have watched the anime

1. Art

Horimiya art

The art for horimiya is very well polished and the panels are quite well arranged. For me, reading the manga was almost like watching the anime. Thats how well drawn this manga is. I have my gallery full of this manga's screenshots

2. Additional stuff

Horimiya Manga

In total the manga has a decent 122 chapters. If you have come after watching the anime, there is a ton of additional stuff that that the manga covers. So much of the stuff is cut from the anime, it almost seems that the anime is just a highlight version of the manga. Even a lot of characters like Iura and Sawada are much more explored and developed in the manga. Iura's backstory seems a lot abrupt and just for the sake of it in the anime while it all seems to flow nicely in the anime. And hey, overall we get more of Horimiya, so whatis there not to like!

3. Meowmura

Okay so are you not convinced yet? Well fair enough. I present to you Meowmura! While not being in the main chapters (unfortunately) he appears in Toru's dreams which are added in the additional chapters. Convinced to read? No? You drive a hard bargain. But what about, Meowri?

Now that we have appeased both of the genders, lets move on. (There's a cat version of Sengoku as well if that's something you are into)

4) Supporting Characters :

Iura

As discussed in the first point, the supporting characters are given much more context when compared to anime. We get to see a much more clearer background for every character and get to know why they act the what they do.

Two of the strongest supproting characters, Iura and Sawada are explored thoroughly, in contrast to the anime where just a couple of scenes (or an episode at max) is given to these characters, which is justifiable considering its short run time.

5. Fills the holes the anime left

Hori and miyamura

While the anime did a splendid job of adapting this series, it still had to cut off a major chunk of the manga which inevitably leaves the viewer with some questions. What happened with Yuki and Toru? While having a short appearence, the question still arises about what's next for Yanagi and Sakura. And the biggest question, what happens to Hori and Miyamura after their highschool graduation? All this is answered in the manga to some extent.
