So you heard Centimeter or Kimi No Sei and wanted more songs like them? We got you covered!
The Peggies are a three piece rock band from Japan, and much known in the west for their contribution to different anime openings and endings. Considering how I loved a lot of their discography after finding them through watching Bunny Girl Senpai, I decided to make a list of their strongest songs since they have a decent number of albums and EP's and it can be a little overwhelming to someone just starting to know about them.
I am going to divide this list into two parts, the anime songs and the album cuts. Since their anime songs are the cream of the top (according to me) you should definitely start with it and then dive into their other stuff. All of the songs in the list have the tracks added below them!
Anime Songs
1. Centimeter
This is honestly a given and chances are you already have probably heard it. The opening for Rent A Girlfriend, Centimeter is an absolute banger and I like it very much (wish I could have said the same thing about the anime) This is their most streamed song on Spotify and a lot of people get into The peggies through this so if you haven't heard this you definitely should!
2. Kimi No Sei
The opening for Bunny Girl Senpai, Kimi No Sei was my introduction to The Peggies and man am I glad I found them through this song. This one song perfectly captures the band's sound. It is loud, energetic, has a catchy chorus and pretty melodies. I personally prefer this over Centimeter but both of them are very very good songs.
3. Stand By Me
Honestly, this song caught me by surprise. The ending for Sarazanmai an anime I am completely unfamiliar with, Stand By Me gradually became my favorite peggies song. From the first second it introduces its catchy chorus and progresses the song from there. The verses are well composed and the pre chorus gets you ready for the that gem of a chorus that it teased you with in the beginning. All and all a great song!
4. Ashiato/Footprints
Ashiato or Footprints as its English translation suggests is the most recent addition to their discography. The Ending for My Hero Academia, Ashiato follows The peggies formula with great consistency while being unique and different from the other songs in its own way. The guitar riffs on this song is really tight and the basslines PHEWW those basslines are tasty as hell. It demands the listener to gives it attention to that segment of the song without standing out too much. Technically speaking, I find this song there most interesting one.
5. Baby!
While technically this isn't an opening or ending for any anime, Baby is used in Bunny Girl Senpai, although it was changed to a more poppy synthy style to meet the demand of the scene. It is almost obvious that the original is better as it has more personality and dynamics. And it is cute as hell! What is there not to like?
6. Dreamy Journey
Dreamy Journey, the first ending song for Boruto starts with almost a nursery rhymes melody which fooled me into skipping it quite a few times. But when I actually gave it a chance I found out that it was much more than that (which is kinda obvious but hey, my short attention span what can I say)
The chorus is catchy and the song is adorable.
Singles and Album cuts
1. Anemone
Anemone is a song I feel is a hidden gem even though its not so hidden if that makes sense. Released as a part of the 2020 EP of the same name, it is a highly emotional and symbolic song. If you listen to this song make sure to turn on the captions to get some meaning of the words as it truly can hit you in the feels.
2. Dive To Love
Another very strong track, the chorus is straight up on your face and reels you in to enjoy this high paced banger.
3. Ashita
4. Weekend
Honestly, I wanted to add a lot more of their songs on this list but then it would have been way too long. If you dig all of these tracks then you should definitely listen to their full length albums, Hell In Heaven and Good Morning Tokyo as well. They both are very strong albums with a decent amount of great songs!
